How to Choose the Right RV & Boat Storage Facility:
What Really Matters
Bridgette Venezia Shortall | January 5, 2026
If you own an RV or a boat, you already know it represents freedom, relaxation, and time spent in your favorite places. When the season ends or your schedule gets busy, your next responsibility is finding a safe and reliable place to keep your vehicle. Not every storage facility is designed with RV and boat owners in mind, and choosing the wrong place can lead to unnecessary stress or even long term damage.
Choosing the right facility gives you peace of mind and helps make every future trip smoother. Here is a warm and honest look at what truly matters when selecting an RV and boat storage facility.
Security That Helps You Feel Confident Leaving Your Vehicle Behind
Security should be one of the first things you evaluate. When you pull into a storage facility, you should feel that your RV or boat will be watched over carefully. Look for a sturdy perimeter, controlled gate access, visible security cameras, good lighting, and an overall sense that the property is maintained and monitored.
If any part of the security setup feels neglected, trust your instincts. A reliable facility communicates that your investment is taken seriously.
Covered Storage That Helps Protect Your Vehicle From the Elements
You do not need indoor storage to keep your RV or boat in great condition, but you do need protection from sun and weather exposure. Covered storage helps prevent fading, cracking, roof wear, and general deterioration. It also keeps your interior cooler and reduces the toll that time and sunlight take on your vehicle.
Covered storage is one of the simplest ways to extend the life of your RV or boat.
A Layout That Makes Parking Simple and Stress Free
Anyone who has ever backed a long trailer into a small space knows that layout matters. Storage should not feel like a challenge. Wide aisles, open turning space, angled parking stalls, and a tall entrance gate all make maneuvering easier.
You should feel comfortable on your first visit without needing a spotter or feeling worried about tight corners. A facility that is designed for larger vehicles helps remove stress from the storage process.
Access Hours That Work With Your Travel Routine
RV and boat owners do not always operate on a typical schedule. Some trips start before sunrise. Others end late at night. A storage facility with convenient access hours supports your lifestyle instead of restricting it. You should be able to pick up or drop off your vehicle at times that work for you.
The right facility helps you head out on your adventures without unnecessary delays.
Helpful Amenities That Support Your Routine as an RV or Boat Owner
Thoughtful amenities can turn a storage location into a truly convenient home base. Features like a dump station, air and water fill, propane service, electrical hookups, and wide turnaround areas help you prepare for trips with less running around.
These are not luxury extras. They are practical features that save time and make your travel routine easier.

Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff Who Make a Difference
Customer service is an important part of the storage experience. A facility should feel welcoming from the moment you call or visit. Communication should be clear. Pricing should be transparent. Staff should be familiar with common RV and boat needs and able to answer questions without pressure.
A good team creates a positive experience and gives you confidence in your choice.
A Reputation That Matches What You Want in a Storage Partner
Before you decide where to store your RV or boat, take a moment to read reviews. Look for patterns in how customers describe security, cleanliness, staff, and overall satisfaction. Consistent feedback from other RV and boat owners is one of the most reliable ways to judge long term quality.
A strong reputation is built through care and consistency.

I had an outstanding experience with John at LuxeGuard in Pittsburg. From the moment I arrived, he was courteous, welcoming, and incredibly helpful in getting me situated. He truly made me feel at home, and I immediately knew my rig would be secure in his care.
The facility itself is impressive—clean, spacious, and extremely well kept. It’s large enough to comfortably fit my 40-ft diesel pusher, and parking it was far easier than I expected thanks to the wide layout and accessible design. Everything about the property reflects attention to detail and pride in the service they provide.
What really sold me, though, was learning that John lives on-site. That level of commitment and presence gives an extra layer of peace of mind you just don’t find everywhere. His customer service is truly top notch, and it shows in every interaction.
I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I feel completely confident storing my rig here, and I’ll absolutely be recommending LuxeGuard—and John—to anyone looking for secure, high-quality storage.“

I arrived late Sunday evening to check out the location for my travel trailer. I met with Guillermo and was impressed. He’s very friendly and knowledgeable. And as a bonus, it’s a great location!! Very clean, covered spots, and most importantly, secure. They also have a washing station and dump station. You won’t find a better price in this area for the amenities they offer. I got a spot. You should too.“

The storage facility is new, with state of the art security technology. You simply can't go wrong with this place. Go checkout out, you will be impressed.A Location That Helps You Enjoy Your RV or Boat More Often
Convenience matters more than you may expect. If your storage facility is located near your home or along a major travel route, you are more likely to use your vehicle regularly. A good location removes unnecessary steps and helps storage feel like a natural part of your travel routine.
Your storage choice should support your lifestyle, not add complications.
Flexible Terms That Fit the Way You Travel
Travel plans shift throughout the year. A facility that offers flexible, month to month terms, simple billing, and clear pricing helps you adapt easily. Flexibility shows that the facility understands real RV and boat owners and respects the way people use their vehicles.
